The Volume Rendering option enables visualization of three-dimensional (3D) structures and images using acquired CT or MRI images. Ready-made protocols for various clinical procedures allow for obtaining views of the structures using single-click operations.
Volume rendering is performed by acquiring a set of volumetric data and assigning opacity and color to every pixel in accordance with parameters determined by the user. This assignment can be either predetermined or dependent upon the tissue to which the pixel belongs and on the pixel value.
The application displays the volumetric data, using the color and opacity assigned for each pixel. The effect is that of semitransparent tissues, which partially hide other tissues. The lighting of sources can be used for enhanced three-dimensional sensation.
Volume rendered images may be manipulated in a similar fashion to other 3D images. The original image and the 3D image are both displayed.
